The Executive Dashboard Spec That Stops Reporting Arguments

An executive dashboard is not a collection of charts. It is a contract about which questions the business must answer every week.

The useful spec starts with decisions: where should budget move, which campaign produces qualified demand, which product path creates revenue, which handoff is leaking, which operation is slowing customer experience, and who owns the fix. Only after those questions are written should the metrics be chosen.

The second layer is definition quality. A lead, activation, order, opportunity, revenue, refund or warehouse exception must mean the same thing in every tool. If the CRM, analytics and finance view disagree, the dashboard should expose the disagreement instead of hiding it under a clean chart.

The final layer is operating rhythm. A dashboard without a weekly decision loop becomes decoration. A dashboard with owners, definitions and actions becomes management infrastructure.
